A workation is an excellent opportunity to balance a holiday while continuing to work remotely.

Most popular for its beaches, the island of Phuket in southern Thailand is an idyllic destination to take advantage of a workation.

If you have been cooped up in your flat staring out the window at cold, dreary weather, now is the time to book your airline tickets, reserve a room in a hotel and escape the doldrum.

Phuket is truly a tropical getaway. The island has something for everyone, and the weather is absolutely perfect this time of year.

If you are craving sunshine, the sand between your toes and heavenly turquoise waters, Phuket delivers. The island is wonderful for families, couples and solo travelers. For those looking to take advantage of a workation, and also indulge in a bit of relaxation, Phuket is the perfect spot.

Working remotely affords the opportunity to have some flexibility in your daily work routine, so while in Phuket, you will want to take advantage of the island and get out and explore. Those looking to bask in the glow of the summer sun can enjoy days lazing by the pool, or heading to any of the island’s beautiful beaches such as Bang Tao Beach, Kamala Beach or Surin Beach. The neighborhoods that surround these three beaches are some of the most popular in Phuket, and cater to travelers looking for an upscale tropical holiday. There are many things to see and do in these neighborhoods, and they are within close proximity to sightseeing destinations further afield in Phuket.

If you are looking to shop until you drop after office hours, Phuket is home to many major shopping malls including Central Phuket and Central Floresta, which cater to those looking for high-end fashion and name brands. However, if you feel like bartering, we suggest you head to the island’s biggest open air bazaar, Naka Market. Open daily from 4pm until 10pm, Naka Market has everything from kitschy souvenirs, to makeup, to household goods and affordable clothing.

One of the best ways to explore Phuket is by eating your way around the island.

Famous for street food, Phuket also has amazing local Thai eateries, international restaurant chains, Instagrammable coffee shops and cafes, and a Michelin starred restaurant. If you are looking to enjoy some peace and quiet in nature, you’ll want to head off on one of the island’s hiking paths, or perhaps rent a kayak from any of the west coast beaches and paddle into the sunset.

Convinced that a workation is exactly what you need, but not sure which neighborhood in Phuket to choose?

We have two favorite areas of Phuket to recommend. Families will enjoy the Cherngtalay area of Phuket, a lively expat neighborhood with a local touch overflowing with great restaurants, a choice of leisure activities, and within close proximity to many of the island’s more tranquil beaches such as Banana Beach and Nai Yang Beach.

If utter relaxation is what you seek, you will want to book a workation absolute beachfront on Kamala Beach. Essentially a sleepy fishing village, the Kamala Beach neighborhood blends a slice of local life with a nice variety of coffee shops, Thai and international restaurants, and close proximity to the hustle and bustle, plus the energetic nightlife, of Patong Beach.

If you are looking to combine a workation with a stay in a luxury resort, look no further than Twinpalms Hotels & Resorts.
